Charity of the Year 2024

In 2024, we are pleased to be supporting

Off The Record

In 2024, we are proud to be supporting Off The Record. Off The Record is a mental health movement mobilised to support, promote and defend young people’s mental health, rights and social position. They support young people aged 11-25 in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

OTR’s goal is for all young people to have a choice of timely and meaningful opportunities to improve their mental health and well-being and for their communities to help them flourish.

Each year, they support over 20,000 young people who are able to access OTR’s mental health services for free, thanks in large part to their generous donors.

Young people can present to OTR with a range of symptoms, from anxiety and depression to self-harm and feelings of suicidality. OTR don’t believe they are ‘broken’ and need fixing; their environments and a lack of support often create these challenges.

OTR offer empowering and holistic support, including one-to-one and group work, outreach in educational settings and a range of community-based interventions.

OTR is free, confidential and self-referral – they give young people a choice and a voice.

Charity of the Year 2023

In 2023 we are pleased to be supporting

St Peters Hospice

In 2023, we are pleased to be supporting St Peter’s Hospice. This charity is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses. Their commitment is to improve patient’s quality of life while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.

We are very thankful to St Peter’s Hospice for the support a good friend of one of the members received last year. A couple of us also have parents who have had some help from the Community team during illness.

Here is a little more information about the charity:

Every year St Peter’s Hospice makes a difference in the lives of thousands of patients and their families when it matters most.

Whether helping manage pain, providing bereavement support or relief from symptoms, the hospice team works 24/7 to support individuals and families as they navigate the challenges of living with a life-limiting illness.

Our Inpatient Unit is a state-of-the-art centre of clinical excellence that was built with the generous support of the people of Bristol. Beyond our Inpatient Unit, you’ll find our team in homes and on the phone 24/7.

Despite being a front-line service, only 22% of our funding comes from the NHS. The rest is raised in our community.

All this work would not be possible without your support and our wonderful community. Every time you shop with us, donate, participate in an event, sponsor a friend or volunteer with us, you make a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our community. We cannot thank you enough.

If you want to support St Peter’s Hospice, you can donate via their website.

Or you may like to get involved in one of their fundraising events.

Charity of the Year 2022

In 2022 we are pleased to be supporting

Ups and Downs Southwest

In 2022, we are pleased to the supporting Ups and Downs Southwest. This charity has been close to our hearts since we collaborated with them on a video of This Is Me for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day 2019.

Here is a little more information about them:

Ups and Downs Southwest is a local charity whose main office is based just outside of Bridgwater, Somerset. With a second office just opened in Bristol, our aim is to support families, professionals and all those involved in the care and education of children and young people with Down Syndrome across the Southwest.

We provide advice and support from 0 to 25 years. Offering face to face support, assistance with benefit and education forms, an advocacy service, family days, children and young people activities, advice and support for professionals, training events, an education advice service and most importantly, our time and understanding.

The family support team comprised of professional support workers and team leaders all with differing backgrounds; some members of the team have a child with Down Syndrome or other disability and have personal knowledge and experience of the struggles that may lie ahead as well as knowing how important it is to celebrate the achievements.

We currently support over 300 families in the Southwest.

Fascinating Rhythm Charity of the Year 2020

Jessie May - Children's Hospice at Home Charity of the Year 2020

Fascinating Rhythm

Charity of the Year 2020

In 2020 we are pleased to be supporting

Jessie May – Children’s Hospice at Home.

Here is a little more information about them:

This wonderful charity provides children with life-limiting conditions and their families with care, support and advocacy. Since Jessie May began in 1996, it has supported over 300 children and their families all across the South West region including Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.

This charity is nearly wholly reliant on donations, to provide the care which is obtained through University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. Assisting children to be empowered whilst having these life-limiting conditions and allowing them dignity in their homes when the time comes is extremely expensive, so they always need assistance in fundraising to enable this level of care. Support is also provided for up to 5 years post bereavement. In 2019, 140 children and their families were being assisted and 50 supported through their bereavement programme.

Alternatively, if you fancy fundraising, there are many ways to support Jessie May, all available to view on the fundraising section of their website. Please take a look at their website for further information: Jessie May

Charity of the Year 2019

In 2019 we are pleased to be supporting

TAYM (“Thornbury Area Youth Music”)

Here is a little more information about them:

In 2012 the local authority announced that it was closing its Saturday morning music centre at Marlwood School, Alveston. Over the summer a charitable trust was set up, and Saturday youth music carried on at Marlwood. Since becoming independent, Thornbury Area Youth Music Trust has gone from strength to strength.

Based today in Manorbrook School in Thornbury, and more than 100 children from the age of 4-18 make music with us on a Saturday morning in term time, with groups ranging from early years to the senior orchestra.

Their innovative Let’s Playscheme is unique in the region and is introducing the next generation of youngsters to “proper” musical instruments. With over 70 under-10s enjoying music on a Saturday, the future for youth music in our area is bright.

TAYM is run entirely by parent trustees and volunteers. With the decline in musical opportunities in primary and secondary schools, it’s vital to them that all the young people of the area have access to music on their doorstep at affordable prices without having to travel further afield.

“This is Me” Video

In 2019 we are pleased to have supported

Ups and Downs Southwest

In March 2019, on World Downs Syndrome Awareness Day, we were delighted to release “This is Me” in collaboration with the charity Ups and Downs Southwest.

The experience of creating this track and film with those wonderful children, was an utterly heartwarming experience and something we’re all immensely proud of.

We were then astounded to have been watched across the globe and receive over 17,000 views on YouTube and rising.

Notably, our collaboration was nominated for the Charity Film Awards and we were astonished to reach the final.

We were truly touched to have gotten that far and would like to thank everyone who supported us in this venture and gain recognition and awareness for this fabulous charity.
